Christmas was absolutely perfect this year. We start the day with just us and the kids, which is always a special time for our family. There is nothing better than watching their eyes light up and see them be so excited not only for themselves but for each other. We take our time as each of us opens our presents and we really enjoy being together.
Once we have opened our family gifts, we call Jess' family and they head over for breakfast. I love this part of Christmas because everyone is so happy and we are eating good food. What more could you want? After breakfast, we give Jess' family our gifts to them before we head to their house and open more gifts.
This year, the family did something new, which I believe we are now going to make a tradition. A tree was planted for Jess' brother Jared at the park by our house. We went with the family and planted flowers around the tree. We know they only leave them for a few weeks but it was worth it. It was a way of bringing Jared home for Christmas for us. Even the kids dug in there and planted away. They loved it!
After we planted the flowers, we stayed at the park for a while and played with all the new Christmas goodies. Santa was told not to bring any electronics this year in an attempt to get our kids to be more imaginative and active. I have to say, it has paid off.
Christmas was very relaxed this year and I loved it. After the park, we played all day with the kids and their new things. It was a perfect holiday!
